Introducing Our Free Tutoring Program at TongYan School
We are very proud to announce the launch of our new, free tutoring program. We are currently seeking exceptional high school student volunteers to serve as tutors and provide academic support to the children in our community. As a certified organization of the President's Volunteer Service Award, participating high school students will earn valuable community service hours while making a meaningful impact.
Our high school volunteers will offer free ONLINE tutoring in math, English, and Chinese reading for children within the Tongyan school community. Each tutoring project will be led by a pair of high school students, ensuring a high-quality and personalized learning experience. Sessions will be held 1-3 times per week, with each session lasting between 30-60 minutes depending on the child's subject and grade level.
This tutoring program is designed for students in grades 1-5, with a maximum of 5 students per project. Our goal is to ignite a passion for learning in our young students while empowering them to excel academically. Through the support of our exceptional high school tutors, we aim to foster resilience, intellectual curiosity, and determination in our students, setting them on a path to lifelong success.
For the math tutoring sessions, we will utilize the "Singapore Math Challenge Word Problems" curriculum. In the English program, we will employ the "Wordly Wise 3000" series. As for the Chinese program, we will conduct reading sessions and introduce culturally relevant topics to enrich the learning experience. These carefully selected resources will ensure a comprehensive and engaging educational experience for our students.
We are eager to kick off our pilot program this summer, which will consist of two sessions, each lasting four weeks. Session 1 runs from June 26, 2023, to July 23, 2023, and Session 2 takes place from July 24, 2023, to August 20, 2023. Prior to the start of the summer break, we will send out registration details for interested families. A strong commitment to our mission and students. Our fall tutor program will run from early September to mid-December, and it's expected that tutors participate for the full term if they sign up.
